  • Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys
  • Autism prevalence figures are growing
  • Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the U.S.
  • Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
  • Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
  • There is no medical detection or cure for autism

​National Institutes of Health Funds Allocation
  • Total 2012 NIH budget: $30.86 billion
  • Of this, only $169 million goes directly to autism research. This represents 0.55% of total NIH funding.

The national average of  Autism diagnosis is 1 in 68 and boys are affected 5 times more

1 in 45 compared to girls affected 1 in 184. This is a 600% percent increase in prevalence of Autism over the last 

 two decades, 40% of autistic children do not talk at all.

25% – 30% of autistic children have some words at 12 to 18 months of age and then lose them.

The lifetime cost for an individual with autism is estimated to be $3.2 million.

Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to increase dramatically in the next decade.
